Jamboree Juice-Up: Smith, Lowe Meet With Media
September 30, 2009 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
Sept. 30, 2009
Coach Dave Smith
On the importance of the Cowboy Jamboree
"To me, it's the official start of the season. I know we've had meets and some competition. With this, the attitude changes and the approach changes this week. We get a chance to measure ourselves against some very talented teams. I think the guys feel the same way--this is the day the season starts."
On the history of the Cowboy Jamboree
"It's a big meet, it's been around forever. Some of the best runners to come through the NCAA have run on this course. Guys that were Olympians have run on this course. Some very good runners have come through here."
Cowboy sophomore Colby Lowe
On the magnitude of the Cowboy Jamboree
"It is a big meet for everybody. It's the only home meet we've got. The Cowboy Jamboree is cool because guys that ran in past years come back and run in the open race or are out there cheering us on. It's big because it's the only home meet we've got. It's the first chance to see where everybody is and have a little fun."
On what he looks to get out of the first meet
"The big thing about this first meet is to see where we are and where we stand. We want to see how things are going in our training so far. We want to show we can do this right now. It will be a good test to see where we stand, where we are and to see some good teams."
