The Oklahoma State softball team picked up two wins against Oklahoma Christian in a doubleheader this evening here at Cowgirl Stadium. The Cowgirls won the first game by a score of 7-1 and the second game with a score of 19-1.
Sophomore Julie Ward drove in four of the seven runs in the first game of the night. She hit a double off the center field wall in the first inning to score two and a single up the middle in the third to score two more. Senior Megan Castle and sophomores Chelsea Garcia and Kelsey Anchors each added one RBI a-piece in the fifth inning to add to OSU's total run total. Oklahoma Christian's lone run came from a runner scoring from third on a passed ball.
Every starter from last season from Oklahoma State started the first game, including senior Anna Whiddon in the circle. Whiddon threw five shutout innings giving up three hits while striking out eight and walking none. Junior Taylor Marcum threw the last two innings giving up two hits and no earned runs while striking out three and walking one.
As a team, Oklahoma State tallied 19 hits for 19 runs in the second game of the evening as the Cowgirl newcomers made their debut. Freshman Katie Asher went 4-for-4 in the game and had a home run, a double and four RBIs. Fellow freshman Kat Espinosa started the second game in the circle and threw a complete game giving up only two hits for one run while striking out eight and walking none.
OSU will return to action on Wednesday, September 30th, when they host Rogers State in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.
