Cross Country Legend McCubbins Dies at Age 63

STILLWATER, Okla. - Former Oklahoma State cross country and track great Chris McCubbins died Aug. 21 after a battle with leukemia. McCubbins was 63.
McCubbins was a native Oklahoman born in 1945. As a Cowboy, he won the 1967 NCAA Championship in the steeplechase. He went on to capture a gold medal while representing the United States at the Pan Am Games in the same year.
In 1970, he moved to Winnipeg, Canada, and became a Canadian citizen in 1976. In that year, he represented Canada in the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal.
"He really has made a legacy in several areas," Sheldon Reynolds, friend and fellow runner, said. "His love of cross-country running - he really reveled in the fall season."
In 1986, McCubbins was ranked as the No. 4 masters road runner in the world, according to Runner's World Magazine.
