STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State head women's tennis coach Chris Young has hired Jamea Jackson as the program's assistant coach it was announced today.
"I am very excited to welcome Jamea to the OSU tennis family," Young said. "Her experiences as a player will be a tremendous asset to our current players and future Cowgirls. I am thankful to our administration for their commitment to building a championship program, and this is another piece toward doing just that."
Jackson joins the coaching ranks after completing a successful professional playing career that saw her rise as high as No. 45 in the world rankings in 2006. That same year, she represented the United States as a member of its Federation Cup Team.
"I am excited to join the OSU tennis program," Jackson said. "I am thankful for this amazing opportunity and hope to be an asset to Coach Young as well as our current and future players."
A native of Atlanta, Jackson has competed in all four of the sports' grand slams, including a second-round appearance at Wimbledon in 2005.
Jackson won twice during her professional career, claiming victories in 2004 at the ITF's stop in Tucson and in 2003 at the tour's event in Dallas. The 22-year-old also reached the finals at the Birmingham event in 2006 and was a three-time quarterfinalist on the ITF Circuit during her career.
Jackson owns career wins over several of the world's top players, including Jelena Jankovic (currently ranked No. 4), Marion Bartoli (No. 14) and Maria Sharapova (No. 49).
