Oklahoma State collected just three hits off Missouri starter Chelsea Thomas as the Tigers defeated the Cowgirls 10-0 here Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the 2009 Big 12 Softball Championship.
Missouri scored four runs in the bottom of the first off Cowgirl starter Anna Whiddon (19-13), including a three-run home run off the bat of Lindsey Ubrun. The Cowgirl righthander was pulled after hitting the next batter with a pitch without generating an out. By the time the inning was over, Mizzou had a 4-0 lead.
The Tigers added four more in the bottom of the fifth on five hits and two Cowgirl errors.
Oklahoma State threatened to score in the top of the third. Freshmen Chelsea Garcia and Kelsey Anchors led off the inning with back-to-back base hits. Alysia Hamilton walked with two outs to load the bases, but a fielder's choice by Sam Heinlein ended the threat.
Oklahoma State (34-20) will await the announcement of the NCAA Tournament field on Sunday night at 9 p.m. central time. It will be televised live on ESPNU.
