Cowboy Track and Field Heads to Stanford; Arkansas

The Oklahoma State men's track and field team returns to action this weekend to compete in the Arkansas Twilight Meet on Friday in Fayetteville, Ark., and the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational on Saturday in Palo Alto, Calif. This weekend also marks the first weekend of collegiate outdoor competition for freshman standout German Fernandez.
Fernandez and several other top Cowboy athletes are headed to Stanford University's Cobb Track & Angell Field for the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational.
Sean Fleming will represent the Cowboys in the 1,500 meters, where his season-best time is only three seconds shy of the NCAA regional qualifying time, while David Chirchir runs the 3,000-meter steeplechase, where he has already qualified for the regional with a time of 8:55.13.
The majority of Oklahoma State's athletes will run the 5,000 meters, including Fernandez, Ryan Vail, John Kosgei, Ryan Prentice, Colby Lowe and Matt Barnes-Smith. Alex Ruiz will run the 10,000 meters for the first time this year.
Five Cowboys are headed to John McDonnell Field at the University of Arkansas for the Arkansas Twilight Meet.
Mitchel Rolfes will run the 400-meter dash for the third time this season, while Tucker Weems, Brian Gosnell, Brad McNiff and Ryan Lusk compete in the 1,500 meters. Gosnell will also compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, his first time to run the event this season.
The Arkansas Twilight Meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and conclude with the 5,000 meters at 9:25 p.m. on Friday, while the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational is scheduled to last from 3 p.m. to 10:16 p.m. PST on Saturday.
