Freshmen Julie Ward and Chelsea Garcia both hit a double in the bottom of the sixth inning, propelling the Oklahoma State Cowgirls to a 2-1 victory over Texas Tech here Saturday afternoon at the Cowgirl Softball Complex. The win ended a two-game winning streak for OSU.
Oklahoma State took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third when Kelsey Anchors scored on a double by Alysia Hamilton. It was Hamilton's team-leading 46th RBI of the season. Anchors led off the inning with a bunt single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Mariah Gearhart.
The Cowgirls had runners on first and third when Katelyn Bright hammered the ball off the leg of Red Raider pitcher Alex Watkins. Hamilton's double to left field scored Anchors, but Bright was thrown out one batter later when trying to score from third on a fly ball by Sam Heinlein.
Texas Tech evened the score in the top of the sixth inning when Ashley Hamada hit her first home run of the season off Cowgirl starter Anna Whiddon. The ball barely cleared the wall in right field, but it was enough to tie the game at 1-1.
With a 2-1 lead after six, OSU lefthander Sarah Odom came on in relief of Whiddon (17-12). Despite giving up two hits in the inning, Odom struck out Danielle Matthews and pinch hitter Skyler Peterson to pick up her third save of the season.
Oklahoma State (32-19, 7-10) will host the Red Raiders (15-40, 3-14) in the regular-season finale on Sunday at noon.
