Fernandez; Vail Qualify for Big 12 Final

LUBBOCK, Texas – Oklahoma State men's track and field standouts German Fernandez and Ryan Vail finished the 1,500-meter run preliminary heat in 3:47.49 and 3:47.92, respectively, Saturday to lead the field into Sunday's final heat at the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Texas Tech University.
Fernandez, running the event for the first time in his collegiate career, is now qualified to run in the event at the NCAA regional, while Vail qualified for the race earlier this season when he ran a time of 3:46.06 at the John McDonnell Invitational.
Four other Oklahoma State athletes competed in the event, including Sean Fleming, Tucker Weems, Brad McNiff and Brian Gosnell, who finished in 3:52.19, 4:02.68, 4:08.08 and 4:17.96, respectively
The Cowboys, ranked seventh in the team standings with 19 points after day two, return to action Sunday for the final day of the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The 1,500 meters final is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
