Cowgirl Tennis Falls in Regular Season Finale

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Playing without injured All-Big 12 performer Nataliya Shatkovskaya, the Oklahoma State women’s tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to fifth-ranked Baylor on Sunday at the DeBois Tennis Complex.
Baylor improved to 20-4, 10-0 in Big 12 play and clinched at least a share of the league regular season title. The Cowgirls fell to 12-11, 5-6.
Senior Maryna Tkachenko teamed with Sasha Belova to pick up the lone Cowgirl win in doubles play. They downed Karolina Filipiak and Zuzana Chmelarova 8-7 (10) at No. 3 doubles. It was the last home match for Tkachenko.
Taylor Ormond and Jelena Stanivuk bested OSU’s freshmen duo Iryna Khatsko and Alisa Buslaeiva 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. Csilla Borsanyi and Lenka Broosova followed with an 8-4 win over JoAnne Karaitiana and Galina Semenova at No. 1 doubles to clinch the point for the Bears.
Five of Baylor’s six wins in singles came in straight-set fashion. The Cowgirls forced a third set at No. 5 singles. Filipiak downed Buslaieva 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 to preserve the shutout.
Broosova downed Khatsko 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles to push the Baylor lead to 2-0. Khatsko played at the No. 2 slot in the place of Shatkovksaya, who injured her left ankle in OSU’s win over Texas Tech on Friday.
Baylor extended its lead to 3-0 with Stanivuk’s 6-2, 6-3 win over Tkachenko at the No. 3 slot. Chmelarova clinched the match for the Bears with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Semenova at No. 6 singles.
Borsanyi added a 7-6 (5), 6-0 win over Belova at No. 4 singles and Ormond downed Karaitiana 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 1 slot.
The Cowgirls return to action Thursday at the Big 12 tournament in Norman, Okla. Seedings for the tournament will be finalized this week.
