Home Runs Lift Cowgirls to 3-1 Win Over Cyclones

Freshman Julie Ward hit her ninth home run of the season to put the Cowgirls (29-15, 5-7) on the board in the second inning. Oklahoma State led the game 1-0 until the bottom of the seventh when Cyclone catcher Alex Johnson hit a solo home run over the left field fence to send the game into extra innings.
In the top of the eighth, sophomore Alysia Hamilton hit a single up the middle to reach base. Two batters later, sophomore Taylor Marcum pinch-hit for Megan Castle and hit the first pitch over the left fielders head for her first bomb of the season to put the Cowgirls up 3-1.
Sophomore Sarah Odom started the game for the Cowgirls and threw 7.1 innings. She gave up one run off four hits while walking two and striking out six. She improves to 13-4 on the season. Junior Anna Whiddon faced the final two batters of the eighth inning to pick up her third save of the year.
Rachel Zabriskie threw the complete game for the Cyclones (20-25, 2-9) giving up three runs off eight hits, walking one and striking out 10. She fell to 13-20.
The Cowgirls will play the second game of the series against the Cyclones tomorrow at 12 p.m.
