Cowgirl Tennis Blanks Oral Roberts
April 15, 2009 | Cowgirl Tennis
TULSA, Okla. Â The Oklahoma State women's tennis team kept to its winning ways Tuesday with a 7-0 triumph over Oral Roberts at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The Cowgirls ran their winning streak to three matches, tying their longest winning streak of the season. OSU improved to 11-10, while Oral Roberts fell to 3-9 and snapped a three-match winning streak.
It is the second time the Cowgirls have shut out the Golden Eagles this season. They handed ORU a 6-0 defeat March 3.
OSU swept the doubles matches to start the match. JoAnne Karaitiana and Nataliya Shatkovskaya downed Hayden Rush and Rafaela Souza 8-2 at No. 1 doubles.
At No. 2 doubles, the freshmen duo of Alisa Buslaieva and Iryna Khatsko bested Tayler Pippin and Ana Costa 8-2. Sasha Belova and Galina Semenova added an 8-3 win over Corrine Langston and Ekaterina Kondrashova at the No. 3 slot.
The Cowgirls won all but one of the singles matches in straight sets. Karaitiana beat Rush 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Shatkovskaya added a 6-1, 6-3 win over Souza at the No. 2 slot.
Belova beat Costa 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 singles, while Buslaieva dropped Langston 6-3, 6-3. Freshman Semenova, playing in only her fifth match all year, downed Kondrashova 6-3, 6-1.
In the only match that went more than two sets, Khatsko defeated Pippin 3-6, 6-1, 10-1. The final set was played in a super tiebreaker format because the Cowgirls had already clinched the match.
The win marked the fourth time the Cowgirls have shut out an opponent this season.
OSU returns to action Friday against Texas Tech at the DeBois Tennis Complex in Stillwater. If inclement weather moves into the area, the match will be relocated to Tulsa.
