Cowboys Complete Series Sweep Of Arkansas-Pine Bluff
April 15, 2009 | Cowboy Baseball
STILLWATER, Okla. Â Oklahoma State earned a three-game sweep of Arkansas-Pine Bluff with a 5-0 win in the series finale Wednesday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
The win marked the Cowboys' second shutout of the season as they improved to 24-14, which includes a 16-6 mark on their home field.
Freshman Uriah Fisher picked up his second win of the season with five innings of scoreless work. The right hander allowed just five hits and struck out a career-high six in improving to 2-0.
OSU also got a strong outing on the mound from Jared Starks, who tossed three innings in relief of Fisher and allowed just one hit while also recording a career-best six strikeouts.
Mark Ginther continued his hot hitting, collecting two of OSU's seven hits and also driving in a run, while Dean Green, Micheal Dabbs and Tom Belza each added RBIs.
The Cowboys scored all the runs they would need in the second inning. A triple by Belza brought home OSU's first run, and Green followed with a single to put OSU up by a 2-0 count.
OSU added another run in the fifth. Ginther and Jared Womack both singled to open the inning, and Dabbs drove in the Cowboys' third run with a double.
UAPB (16-19) threatened in the top of the six as back-to-back singles by B.J. McDonley and Zac Varnell drove Fisher from the game. A sacrifice bunt put Golden Lions on second and third with one out, but Starks struck out the next two batters to get out of the jam.
The Cowboys added two more insurance runs in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Green and an RBI single off the bat of Ginther.
OSU returns to Big 12 Conference action Friday when they open a three-game series with Baylor. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Reynolds Stadium.
