Cowgirl Softball Finished Weekend Undefeated

STILLWATER, Okla. (OSU Athletics ) Â— The Oklahoma State softball team defeated Northern Colorado 3-0 and Arkansas 7-6 to extend their win streak to 12 games and finished the Mizuno Classic undefeated in Stillwater Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Mariah Gearhart went 5-for-7 on the day with three stolen bases and had the game-winning hit against Arkansas.

The Cowgirls (17-4) got up to an early 6-0 lead on the Razorbacks (11-9) including scoring four runs with two outs in the third inning. Gearhart started the game with a single into right field and scored when fellow sophomore Alysia Hamilton hit a home run to right field.

With two outs in the fourth inning, freshman Julie Ward got a hit up the middle and then scored after three consecutive Cowgirls were walked. Freshmen Chelsea Garcia and Kelsey Anchors each stepped up with base hits that scored three more runners.

The Arkansas bats came alive in the fourth inning as Whitney Cloer and Brittany Robison each hit solo home runs. In the fifth inning, a walk and two singles loaded the bases for Jessica Robison who hit a grand slam to left field to tie the game.

However Oklahoma State wasn't done at the plate and in the bottom of the seventh with two outs and runners on second and third, Gearhart battled off nine pitches before she hit one through the right side to score Megan Castle from third and win the game.

Junior Anna Whiddon started in the circle for the Cowgirls and threw 6.2 innings, gave up two runs off six hits and struck out eight. She got the win and improves to 8-3.

In the first OSU game of the afternoon, the Cowgirls defeated Northern Colorado 3-0. Sophomore Alex Villalobos got her first career start at Oklahoma State and threw a complete game shutout to improve to 2-0.

OSU scored all three runs in the fourth inning when Katelyn Bright stepped up with the bases loaded and hit a two-RBI single through the right side. Gearhart, who was on first, scored on a throwing error by the first-baseman.

The Cowgirls will host another home game on Wednesday when they take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane at 7 p.m.
