Cowgirl Tennis Picks Up Conference Win Over Kansas State

EDMOND, Okla. – The Oklahoma State women's tennis team snapped its three-match losing streak with a 4-3 win over Kansas State at Oak Tree Country Club in Edmond.
The Cowgirls had the match scheduled to be played in Stillwater as their home conference opener, but the match was moved indoors because of inclement weather.
OSU (8-8, 2-3 in Big 12) scored wins in all three doubles matches to clinch the doubles point to start the match. The freshmen duo of Iryna Khatsko and Alisa Buslaieva picked up an 8-3 win over Vanessa Cottin and Mariya Slupska at No.2 doubles.
JoAnne Karaitiana and Nataliya Shatkovskaya followed with an 8-5 win at the over KSU's Katerina Kudlackova and Nina Sertic at the No. 1 slot. Cowgirls Sasha Belova and Maryna Tkachenko added a 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles at the hands of Antea Huljev and Petra Chuda.
The Cowgirls and the Wildcats (3-8, 0-4) split the singles matches with OSU picking up two three-set wins.
Khatsko rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win for the Cowgirls at No. 4 singles over Chuda to put the Cowgirls back on the board.
OSU picked up its three-set wins at the No. 2 slot and the No. 6 slot. Shatkovskaya won 6-7, 6-2, 6-1 over Sertic at No. 2. Buslaieva won her match 6-7, 6-3, 6-1 over Kudlackova to clinch the match for the Cowgirls.
Kansas State picked up two three-set wins at No. 3 singles and No.6 singles. Slupska downed Tkachenko 6-2, 6-7, 5-7 at No. 3 and Vieira beat Belova 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5.
The Cowgirl netters return to action Sunday against Kansas. The match, originally scheduled to be in Stillwater, will likely be played in Tulsa at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
