Cowgirls Tie For Ninth At Liz Murphey Collegiate
March 29, 2009 | Cowgirl Golf
ATHENS, Ga. ÂOklahoma State's women's golf team tied for ninth place on Sunday at the rain-shortened Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga.
Inclement weather forced the cancellation of the event's first two rounds at University of Georgia Golf Course, shortening the tournament from 54 to 18 holes.
Auburn posted an 11-over 299 to finish three shots ahead of Kent State and Alabama. The Cowgirls posted a 308 score and came in tied with Kentucky and Mississippi.
Alabama's Kathleen Ekey was one of just two players to break par at the par-72, 6,335-yard layout on Sunday. Ekey posted a 69 to finish one shot clear of Kent State's Kirby Dreher in the individual standings.
A pair of Cowgirls earned top-20 finishes as freshman Caroline Hedwall and senior Amanda Johnson each posted 76s to finish tied for 19th place.
Freshman Caroline Masson finished a stroke back with a 77, tying her for 30th place.
Senior Pernilla Lindberg's 79 tied her for 50th place, while senior Karin Kinnerud tied for 79th place with an 83.
The Cowgirls will return to action on April 3 when they head to Tempe, Ariz., for the Ping/ASU Invitational.
