Fernandez, Vail Ready for World Cross Country Championships

AMMAN, Jordan  After outstanding performances at the USA Cross Country Championships on Feb. 7, 2009, Oklahoma State cross country standouts German Fernandez and Ryan Vail are ready to represent the United States on Saturday at the 37th IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Amman, Jordan.
Fernandez won the USA Cross Country Championships junior division 8,000-meter race with a time of 23:20, 19 seconds better than the second-place finisher, to earn a spot on the national team. It marked his second consecutive year to be a junior cross country national champion.
At last year's 36th IAAF World Cross Country Championships, Fernandez finished 25th with a time of 24:15, leading Team USA to a sixth-place team finish in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Vail qualified for the senior team after finishing sixth in the open division of the 2009 national meet, where he finished the 12,000-meter race with a time of 36:24.
The event is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. CST with the junior women's race, followed by the junior men's, senior women's and senior men's sections. The last race is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
