SAN DIEGO, Calif. (OSU Athletics ) Â The Oklahoma State softball team shutout the University of Connecticut Huskies 4-0 Sunday morning in the final day of the San Diego Classic II. Sophomore Mariah Gearhart reached base three times, scored three runs and stole two bases while fellow sophomore Alysia Hamilton had three hits and two runs batted in.
Gearhart started the game with a bunt single and was moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt from Katelyn Bright. Hamilton stepped up and got a hit to right to score Gearhart from second for her 34th RBI of the season.
The Cowgirls third baseman scored the second run for Oklahoma State (21-6) as she reached base after being hit by a pitch and stole second. After advancing to third on a ground out by Hamilton, Gearhart scored on a hit to left field by Megan Castle
Gearhart started off the fifth inning reaching first on an error by the Huskies third baseman and stole second. She scored her third run of the game as Hamilton hit the ball up the middle getting her second RBI of the game. Hamilton scored later in the inning as Sam Heinlein got a hit up the middle.
Junior Anna Whiddon got her third start of the weekend and threw a complete game shutout allowing only two hits, two walks and struck out three. She is now 11-4.
The Cowgirls will play again on Tuesday when they travel to Missouri State for a game at 5 p.m.
