Cowgirl Softball Picks up Two in San Diego

In the first game of the day the Cowgirls (20-6) were down early 1-0 as the Bobcats scored a run off an OSU error in the second inning. In the third, freshman Chelsea Garcia led the inning off with a triple to right-center field and then scored as Kelsey Anchors reached base on an error by the Bobcat shortstop.
QU (2-10) got the lead again in the top of the fifth as Joelle Jacobsen reached base on a walk and then scored on a single up the middle by Christiness Bourdeau. However the Cowgirls rallied in the bottom of the fifth for two more runs as Garcia and Gearhart scored on a double to right field by Katelyn Bright.
Sophomore Sarah Odom started in the circle for the Cowgirls and threw a complete game giving up one earned run off three hits, striking out seven and walking three. She improves to 8-1 on the season.
Junior Anna Whiddon started for Oklahoma State in the second game against San Diego (4-18) and threw her fourth complete game shutout. She gave up only two hits, struck out two and walked to as she improved to 10-4.
Gearhart scored the first two runs for OSU as she led of the first and third innings by reaching base, with a bunt single in the first and a walk in the third. Fellow sophomore Alysia Hamilton then stepped up with a single to right field in both innings to score Gearhart. In the fourth, Garcia and Anchors hit back-to-back singles and Garcia scored from second on a single up the middle by Gearhart.
The Cowgirls will wrap up the San Diego Classic II tomorrow at 11 a.m. when they face Connecticut.
