Cowgirl Tennis Rolls To Win Over Eastern Michigan

STILLWATER, Okla.ÂThe Oklahoma State Cowgirl tennis team got out to an early start in doubles and steamrolled the Eastern Michigan Lady Eagles 6-1 on Saturday at the DeBois Tennis Complex.
The Cowgirls (1-2) swept the doubles matches in a tidy 47 minutes. Jo-Anne Karaitiana and Nataliya Shatkovskaya's 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles over Miriam Westerink and Joanna Woo clinched the doubles point for OSU. Iryna Khatkso and Alisa Buslaieva picked up a win at No. 2 doubles as did Oleksandra Belova and Maryna Tkachenko at No. 3 doubles.
“We changed the doubles lineup and that worked well for us today,” OSU coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski said. “We're going to keep working on it.”
Cowgirl sophomore Karaitiana got right back to work at No. 1 singles for OSU with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Shatkovskaya followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Buslaieva, a true freshman, clinched the match victory for the Cowgirls with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles over EMU's Rumdidzai Muskwe.
Belova and Khatsko also scored points for the Cowgirls with wins at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Belova battled to a 5-7, 7-5, 11-9 win over EMU's Xu Chang. New rules state that if a match has been clinched for a team and a singles match goes to the third set, it is played in a tiebreak format.

“The girls played hard, it was nice to see them win,” Lubicz-Majewski said. “It was a good day for us and I'm looking forward to next weekend.”
