February 25, 2009 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER, Okla. Â The Oklahoma State men's track and field team is ranked No. 16 in the nation for the second consecutive week in this week's U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I rankings.
The Cowboys jumped high into the rankings last week after freshman German Fernandez and junior John Kosgei both turned in top-10 times in the 3,000 meters at the Husky Invitational in Seattle on Feb. 14. Fernandez ran the second-fastest time in the nation with a 7:47.97 and Kosgei ran the eighth-fastest time in the country with a 7:55.95. Fernandez also set the junior world record in the one-mile run earlier this season.
Oklahoma State is one of seven Big 12 teams ranked in the top 16 and one of eight Big 12 teams included in the top 25 this week. The Cowboys return to action this weekend when they compete at the Big 12 Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas.
