Fall 2008: Competed in all three competitions last fall...compiled a 4-2 record in both singles and doubles play ... advanced to round of 32 in singles play and round of 16 in doubles at Wilson/ITA Central Region Championship in Salt Lake City, Utah ... advanced to finals in both singles and doubles at the Aggie Invitational ... competed in doubles with Cowgirl teammate Nataliya Shatkovskaya.
Freshman (2008): Played in all nine matches of the season for the Cowgirls... finished with an impressive 6-3 record in singles play... defeated Texas A&M's Anna Blagodarova in the conference quarterfinals 6-0, 6-0... finished with a 7-2 record in doubles play competing mainly with teammate Sasha Belova.
Fall 2007: Played in Baylor Invitational in Waco, Texas... won consolation bracket in singles “B” draw... paired with Iryna Tkachenko to win the doubles “B” draw.
Before OSU: Was an Australian junior clay court and grass court doubles champion ... was a Junior World Top 200 player ... was a high school state champion in field hockey and volleyball ... was 3rd in state in the track and field 400m for three years in a row.
Personal: daughter of Gary and Valerie Karaitiana ... has two brothers, Dwain (23) and Kai (21) ... mother played for the Australian basketball squad ... father played volleyball for New Zealand ... uncle was a professional golfer ... enjoys watching movies and hanging out with friends ... lists Shawshank Redemption as her favorite movie.
Coach Lubicz-Majewski on Karaitiana: "JoAnne is a very dedicated player. She is very important to our team. She is excited about the coming season. She has played at No. 1 singles for us, and that is a lot of responsibility. She is important for our success."
