Oklahoma City, Okla. -James Anderson scored 28 points, his second-straight 28-point outing, and was named the game's Most Valuable Player in leading Oklahoma State to a 77-62 win against La Salle on Monday night at the 74th Annual Sonic All-College Classic.
Marshall Moses hit a layup just under a minute into the game and OSU never trailed in the game. The 6-7 forward scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds and was also named to the all-tournament team.
The Cowboys went on several spurts, including a 9-0 run that put OSU up 23-7 at the 8:40 mark, the largest lead of the half. La Salle chipped into the lead and cut it down to seven, but Anderson hit a long-distance trey at the end of the half as Oklahoma State took a 36-26 lead into intermission.
The Pokes extended the lead back to 16 on back-to-back three pointers by freshman Ray Penn. Explorers' head coach Dr. John Giannini was forced to call his fourth timeout of the game.
With less than 10 minutes remaining in the game, La Salle cut the 16-point deficit in half, thanks to five-straight points by Rodney Green, the Explorers' leading scorer with 22 points. However, Anderson and Keiton Page led the Cowboys on a 12-2 run to restore the cushion. Anderson had a fast-break layup and a runner in the lane, then tipped the ball away to Page for a jumper in transition. Moses' free throw with 3:31 remaining put Oklahoma State up 75-57.
Green's 3-pointer to stop the Cowboys' surge was his team's only basket in the final 9 minutes.
Page had 11 points and Obi Muonelo had eight points and 10 rebounds for the Cowboys.
Oklahoma State will take eight days off for the holidays before returning to the court on Tuesday, Dec. 29, when the Cowboys host Pacific.
