Cowgirl Equestrian Signs Eight

The Oklahoma State equestrian team has signed eight student-athletes that will join the team next fall as the 2010 recruiting class.
"We're very excited about the 2010 class that is coming in," said OSU head coach Larry Sanchez. "This is a great class that will add a lot of talent and depth to the team and help us continue to be successful."
The Cowgirls' 2010 recruiting class includes:
Jenna Blumer
A native of Springbrook Township, P., Blumer is currently leading the NRHA (National Reining Horse Association) Youth 14-18 and Intermediate Non-Pro Standings and is in the top three of all-time leading NRHA youth point earners. Blumer was the youth reining champion at the All-American Quarter Horse Congress in 2005 and 2008 and was the reserve champion in 2004 and 2006. She also won the 2005 NRHA Affiliate finals in 2005. That success carried into 2009 as she has won the "It's a Bingo Greyhound Non-Pro Derby", the Tradition L1 Non-Pro Futurity, the High Hopes Farm Non-Pro Derby and the Santa Hill Ranch Non-Pro Derby.
Blumer is a member of the National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America and the North Pocono Student Athlete Advisory Committee. She is also the starting point guard for the North Pocono High School Varsity basketball team.
Mackenzie "Max" Clason
Medina, Ohio native Mackenzie Clason recently proved her versatility at the 2009 All-American Quarter Horse Congress by being named champion in the 14-18 equitation over fences and Reserve Congress Champion in reining. She has had consistent success at the world's largest single-breed horse show by being named Reserve Congress All-Around Champion in 2004 and 2005. Clason has placed in the top 10 three times and the top five eight times, with three of those being second-place finishes. She has also had success competing at the AQHYA (American Quarter Horse Youth Association) World Championships by winning a Reserve World Championship in 2007 and placing in the top ten four other times. Clason also brings the experience of competing in the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA), where she placed in the top 10 at the 2009 IEA National Championships.
Samantha Elser
Samantha Elser, a native of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., graduated from the Ethel Walker Academy in Simsbury, CT in the spring of 2009 and delayed her collegiate career so that she could concentrate solely on the major Equitation Finals during her last year as a junior competitor. Elser is a working student for Linda Langmeier of Kelianda Farm in East Granby, Conn., where she consistently shows multiple horses at the most prestigious shows in the country including: Devon, Lake Placid, The Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL, Harrisburg, Maclay Finals and USET Finals. She recently earned a fifth-place award at the New England Equitation Championships and ninth at Maclay Regionals.
Mackenzie Fugitt
Bates City, Mo. native Mackenzie Fugitt will be a great addition to the Cowgirl equestrian roster in 2010. She is currently having one of her most successful years within the American Quarter Horse Youth Association (AQHYA). She placed in the top 10 at the 2009 All-American Quarter Horse Congress in Youth Reining, NYATT Reining and NYATT Horsemanship and was a finalist at the 2009 AQHYA Youth World Championships. She was the Region 3 High Point All-Around Youth and was Youth Champion at the 2009 Wild Slide. Fugitt was Circuit Champion in Youth Horsemanship and the Reserve High Point All-Around Youth at the 2009 March to the Arch and also completed her Superior in Youth Hunt Seat Equitation this year. In addition to all of her recent success, she has been a finalist at the Quarter Horse Congress in 2007 and 2008 and placed in the top ten in 2007.
Fugitt brings a very strong academic record to OSU as she has been on the Oak Grove Honor Roll since 2006 and was a 2008 inductee into the National Honor Society.
Samantha Harrison
Harrison resides in La Canada, Calif., and will graduate from La Canada High School this spring. With a long list of accomplishments to her credit, Harrison has firmly established herself as one of the top junior riders in the country in the Equitation and Jumper ring. She has qualified and competed in all the major California and National Medals and recently placed fourth at the Maclay Finals in Syracuse, N.Y., with her horse, Triple Lutz. She has earned top placings at events such as Capital Challenge, HITS Thermal, Washington International, USHJA Hunter Derby, Ronnie Mutch Equitation Classic and Flintridge, amongst others. As a member of the USA Zone 10 Team at the 2009 Adequan FEI North American Junior & Young Riders Championships, she helped her team win the gold medal as well as earning silver in the Individual Junior Overall Standings. Her accomplishments continued with a champion award in the West Coast Equestrians Jr./Am. Medal in November. She also competes in the junior hunters, the Interscholastic Equestrian League for high school riders in the Los Angeles area and was first on the waitlist for the Australian Youth Olympics in 2009. She currently trains with Karen Healy of the highly regarded Karen Healey Stables in Thousand Oaks, California.
Andrea Robbins
Andrea Robbins is a native of Rehoboth, Mass., and will graduate from Providence County Day School in East Providence, R.I. this spring. Robbins has been riding since a very young age and most recently has applied her talents to the Equitation and Jumper ring. Amongst her accomplishments in 2009 are Massachusetts Hunter Jumper Junior Medal Champion, MA Horsemen's Junior Medal Champion, R.I. Junior Horsemanship Champion and top ten finishes at R.I. Junior Medal Finals and the Prestigious New England Equitation Championships. She currently trains with Kathryn Fletcher of Grazing Fields in Massachusetts.
Alison Rose
Alison Rose brings a wealth of experience as she is a seasoned competitor in the most prestigious equitation events in the country. She has claimed impressive awards at Lake Placid, the Vermont Summer Festival, Saugerties, the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Fla. and throughout New England. She has consistently qualified for all of the major Equitation Finals and recently finished seventh at the MHC Finals and ninth at the Rhode Island Finals. She currently rides with Kathryn Fletcher of Grazing Fields in Massachusetts.
Chelsey Zulia
Chelsey Zulia, who hails from Cincinnati, followed a successful Pony and Children's Hunter career by concentrating on Equitation and the Junior Hunters over the last four years. She is a multiple qualifier for all of the major Equitation Finals, including USEF Medal Finals, USET Finals, Capital Challenge, Washington International, Maclay Finals and the Ronnie Mutch Equitation Championships. She has accumulated numerous points and has shown all over the country. She is currently 41st in the Bates Equitation Rankings and will continue her junior career this winter at the Winter Equestrian Festival and HITS, Ocala. Zulia currently trains with Christina Schlusemeyer and Bob Braswell of Quiet Hill Farm in Ocala, Fla. and will graduate from A Beka Acamedy in Pensacola, Fla. this spring.
