About Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State is opening its 101st season of Cowboy Basketball on Saturday, hosting the Seattle Redhawks inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. The game will also serve as the first-round contest of the Las Vegas Invitational. The Pokes were 2-0 in exhibition play, with a nine-point victory over Central Oklahoma and a 42-point win over Dillard (La.). James Anderson led all scorers, averaging 25.5 points in the two games. He also averaged seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Newcomer Matt Pilgrim recorded a pair of double-doubles and averaged 16 points and 12.5 rebounds per contest. As a team, Oklahoma State shot 51.3 percent from the floor, including 39.5 percent from beyond the arc. The two areas which showed a need for improvement were at the free throw line (61.8 percent) and in the turnover category, although the Cowboys cut their turnover total from 27 the first game to 15 in the second.
About Seattle
Seattle University is currently in its second year of the reclassification process towards moving back to Division I status in the NCAA. After dropping to NAIA in 1980, the school returned to the NCAA in 1999 as a Division II member. The Redhawks won 21 games last season but return just two starters from a year ago -- MIke Boxley and Chris Gweth. Seattle is coached by Cameron Dollar, in his first year as a head coach. He was an assistant at Washington when the Cowboys played the Huskies the last two seasons. Junior college transfer Charles Garcia, a 6-10 post, scored 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the Redhawks' 96-68 exhibition win over Pacific Lutheran.
