Clarissa Andrews Earns Academic Honor

Orlando, Fla. - Oklahoma State junior Clarissa Andrews has been named the Southwest Region's winner of the Academic Momentum Award, it was announced by the Scholar-Baller Program.
The Scholar-Baller Program, in conjuction with the National Consortium for Academics and Sports, created the Academic Momentum Award to recognize student-athletes from across that nation for their academic improvement. Winners were chosen from eight of the NCAS' 10 regions.
Andrews, a management major from Rockwall, Texas, competes in the long jump and the triple jump for the Cowgirls. She is one of 22 student-athletes to earn the award and one of 10 female athletes. Andrews was chosen from 79 nominations from 50 different colleges and universities.
The award is presented to those who have overcome obstacles in their college career. Andrews was admitted to OSU on an alternative admission program, however in the spring of 2009 she earned a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and followed her performance in the spring with a 4.0 in summer school.
Along with enjoying success in the classroom in the spring, Andrews broke the OSU school record in the long jump and earned all-Big 12 honors with a sixth-place finish at the Big 12 conference meet.
"The award is a tribute to how hard she has worked in the classroom and she takes that same attitude to the track," OSU coach Dave Smith said. "She's an extremely hard worker and is great for this program."
Andrews is the second OSU student to win the Academic Momentum Award. Senior wide receiver DeMarcus Conner won the award in 2008.
