STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State women's tennis team travels to Norman, Okla., this week to compete at the ITA Central Region Championships at the University of Oklahoma.
Five athletes are scheduled to compete in the main draw singles tournament, including 13th-seeded Nataliya Shatkovskaya, Sasha Belova, Iryna Khatsko, Alisa Buslaieva, and Alexandra Cristello. Freshman Leyla Simmons will try to join her teammates in the main draw, as she competes in the qualifying draw on Wednesday.
In the main draw doubles tournament, three Cowgirl teams are scheduled to compete. Shatkovskaya and Belova, who hold a 6-1 record this fall, enter the tournament as the No. 7 seed, while Buslaieva and Khatsko, as well as Cristello and Simmons, team up to compete.
"I am excited to see how much our girls have improved this fall," coach Chris Young said. "I believe we have several girls who are capable of putting everything together and making a run deep into this tournament. We have been practicing well so I know they will be prepared to play well in the final fall event."
The ITA Central Region Championship is one of 12 regions for the ITA. It is made up of all NCAA Division I schools in the central region, which includes schools from the states of Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, South Dakota and North Dakota.
The qualifying draw is set to begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday, while main draw play gets underway on Thursday.
