Texas A&M Outlasts Cowgirls, 60-50
January 25, 2009 | Cowgirl Basketball
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP)-- Danielle Gant scored 22 points, Takia Starks added 15 and Texas A&M (No. 7 ESPN/USA Today, No. 9 AP) survived a late comeback attempt led by Andrea Riley to beat Oklahoma State (No. 25 ESPN/USA Today, No. 24 AP) 60-50 Saturday night.
Riley brought the Cowgirls (12-5, 1-3 Big 12) back within 51-50 after her fourth straight free throw with 1:23 to play, but the Aggies (15-3, 3-2) went 9-for-10 from the foul line and held Oklahoma State scoreless the rest of the way for their fifth straight win in Stillwater.
Riley tried to make it interesting, but she missed a transition basket and a step-back 3-pointer before grabbing her own rebound and then fired another 3 that was also off-target.
She finished with 21 points to lead the Cowgirls, and Taylor Hardeman scored 13.
Texas A&M has won 10 of 11 in the series, including a win in the Big 12 championship game last year.
