Cowgirls Cruise To Eighth Win
September 26, 2008 | Cowgirl Soccer
STILLWATER, Okla. Â Six different players scored goals to propel Oklahoma State to an 8-1 win over McNeese State Sunday at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
With the win, the 13th-ranked Cowgirls improved to 8-0-0 on the season. OSU is one of just four NCAA Division I women's soccer teams who remain unbeaten and untied in 2008.
OSU put the game away early, netting four goals in the first 16:30 to drop McNeese State to 3-4-0 on the year.
“We've talked all year about not playing down to the level of the other team, and we've talked about playing with the right intensity and up to the standards we've set for ourselves,” said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. “Today, that was important. Everyone realized this was a game we should win, and our girls did a good job of coming out and getting the early goals to put them away.”
Kyndall Treadwell sparked OSU's quick start with a goal in the eighth minute. The Cowgirl freshman took a pass from Kasey Langdon, and her shot from 12 yards out hit the near post before bouncing across the line for a goal.
The goal was the sixth of the season for Treadwell and was the first of three assists on the day for Langdon, who became just the second player in OSU history to record a pair of three-assist games in the same season.
OSU's second goal also made history as senior Yolanda Odenyo collected the first of her two goals on the day at the 11:37 mark. The goal marked the seventh-straight game Odenyo has scored, breaking the previous school mark of six-consecutive games.
“I didn't know until today,” said Odenyo of setting the mark. “It's not something I keep track of myself, but it's always fun to set a record.
“And for the team, it was a nice win and great to see the whole squad get some playing time and get out there and show what they can do.”
Added Carmichael of Odenyo's scoring streak, “Unbelievable  for a midfielder to score seven games in a row just speaks volumes. Last spring, we talked about moving her into more of an attacking midfielder role, and it's paying off. She's a massive offensive weapon for us.”
After a McNeese State player sent the ball into the net for an own goal to give OSU a 3-0 lead, Odenyo struck for her second goal of the match to put the Cowgirls up by four. The goal was the team-leading eighth of the season for Odenyo, and Langdon was credited with her third assist to raise her team-high total to nine.
OSU would add two more goals before intermission. Freshman Sarah Brown scored from 35 yards out for her first-career goal, and junior Leah Hope rebounded a Katie Richardson shot off the crossbar and sent it past the MSU goalie for her first goal of the season and the Cowgirls' sixth of the day.
In the second half, two more Cowgirls got in on the scoring action as Melanie Adelman collected her first goal of the season and freshman Mary Pat Hardin recorded her first collegiate goal.
OSU opens Big 12 Conference play Friday when the Cowgirls host Texas Tech at 7 p.m.
