Cowgirls Head to Las Vegas for UNLV Invitational
September 25, 2008 | Cowgirl Tennis
Stillwater, Okla. - The Oklahoma State Women's Tennis team will begin play on Friday in the UNLV Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Cowgirls will compete against teams from Missouri, Northern Arizona, Illinois State and UNLV.
The tournament will consist of three rounds of singles and two rounds of doubles. Junior Nataliya Shatkovskaya and Sophomore JoAnne Karaitiana will compete together in doubles, and take part in singles play as well. Galina Semenova and Maryna Trachenko will also participate in both brackets.
Semenova will compete despite suffering an elbow injury she received in last week's Aggie Fall Invitational in New Mexico. The injury occurred in the final match and forced Semenova to retire early.
The Cowgirls are coming off an impressive showing in New Mexico where Shatkovskaya and Karaitiana took the title in doubles with Shatkovskaya also claiming the singles crown.
"The girls had a great tournament in New Mexico, and we were very impressed," OSU head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski said. "They have worked very hard, and I am expecting good play this weekend."
Play begins noon Friday with singles quarterfinals followed by doubles semifinals. The tournament will continue through Sunday.
