Cowgirls Top Xavier To Move To 6-0
September 15, 2008 | Cowgirl Soccer
CINCINNATI Â A pair of juniors helped Oklahoma State remain unbeaten Sunday as the 14th-ranked Cowgirls bested Xavier by a 5-1 count at the Xavier Soccer Complex.
Siera Strawser netted three goals in the win, while Kasey Langdon recorded three assists as the Cowgirls improved to 6-0-0 on the season. OSU's six-straight wins marks its best start since the 2003 squad opened the season with a 10-0-0 record.
Strawser joined a select group with her first-career hat trick as her performance marks only the 12th time in OSU history a player has netted three goals in a game. She is also just the ninth Cowgirl in history to achieve the feat.
Langdon's effort was also a rarity as it is just the seventh time in school history a player has recorded three assists in a match. The Wylie, Texas native became the fifth Cowgirl to reach that number.
“Those were two great performances, and Siera and Kasey continue to produce for us and put up impressive statistics,” said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael.
OSU got on the scoreboard just 11:12 into the match against the Musketeers (0-5-0) as Annika Niemeier scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Langdon.
The Cowgirls needed just 37 seconds to double their score. This time it was Yolanda Odenyo on the receiving end of Landgon's pass as Odenyo netted her fifth goal of the season.
Next it was Strawser's turn as the Bixby, Okla. native recorded the first of her three goals in the 35th minute off a Langdon assist. Less than a minute later, Strawser collected another goal and gave OSU a 4-0 lead that it took into intermission.
OSU's final score of the contest came at the 88:39 mark as Strawser took a pass from Odenyo and blasted a shot from 15 yards out past XU goalie Kelly Farrell.
“We played very well in the first half and put the game away early and then took our foot off the gas and coasted to the win,” said Carmichael, whose squad also won at Louisville on Friday. “It was a good weekend for us. Anytime you can go on the road and get two wins, you're happy.
“We continue to create chances to score, and that's a good sign.”
OSU returns to action this weekend when the Cowgirls host Loyola Marymount (Fri.) and McNeese State (Sun.).
