Cowgirl Softball Gets New Batting Cages
August 11, 2008 | Cowgirl Softball
Two 70-foot batting cages are the centerpiece of the new practice facility which allow multiple stations within an enclosed area. Four tee stations were also built outside the cages for working with batting tees or even for soft-toss practice.
The entire practice area was covered in field turf, identical to that used on the field at Boone Pickens Stadium. This allows for drainage down through the turf allowing for quicker drying time so that the student-athletes can get back in the cages quicker. The field turf was also installed down the right and left-field foul areas, allowing for a more consistent look and warning areas near the fences.
Two more light poles were installed in the practice area to allow for better night practices, and an upgrade to the fencing, including the installation of padding along the foul areas was included in the construction.
