OSU Duo Honored With Postgraduate Scholarships

STILLWATER, Okla.—A pair of recent Oklahoma State graduates have been honored with the Big 12's 2007-08 Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholarships the conference office announced today.
Brian Ehlis, a member of the OSU track and field and cross country squads, and Brittany Myers, a member of the Cowgirl equestrian team, were each among the 24 student-athletes tabbed with the distinction.
The scholarships are named in honor of the late Dr. Prentice Gautt, a former Big 12 Conference staff member and student services' pioneer who passed away in March 2005. The list of all-time recipients has grown to 201 since the inception of the league in 1996-97. Starting in 2002-03, additional funding increased scholarship award winners to two per member institution.
In 2005, Ehlis was named to the USTFCCCA (formerly the USTCA) Academic All-America Track and Field Team. That same season, the Yakima, Wash., native was named an Academic All-Big 12 pick in both track and field and cross country. He was also a first-team academic all-league cross country pick in 2006 and a first-team selection on the track and field side in 2007 and 2008.
Ehlis finished his career as a 10-time selection to the Big 12 Honor Roll and was a five-time OSU Academic Achievement Award winner. He was a two-time member of the President's Honor Roll for earning a 4.0 grade point average and a five-time pick for the Dean's Honor Roll for maintaining a GPA between a 3.5-3.99.
Ehlis currently has an undergraduate degree in finance with a minor in economics and is pursuing a master's degree in quantitative financial economics. He holds a 3.83 GPA in his master's studies and finished his undergraduate degree with a 3.66 GPA.
Myers graduated in May of 2008 with a degree in animal science with an option in pre-veterinary animal science. The Jenks, Okla., native graduated with honors after finishing her degree with a 4.0 GPA to graduate summa cum laude. She is in the first year of the doctoral program for veterinary medicine.
In 2007, Myers was an inaugural recipient of the Equestrian Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete award and was an eight-time selection for both the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the OSU President's Honor Roll.
In addition, she was a four-time OSU Academic Achievement Award recipient. Myers competed in both equitation over fences and equitation on the flat for the Cowgirl English team.
To date the Big 12 has provided $1,205, 600 for postgraduate education. The individual grants began at $2,500 in 1996-97, were raised to $5,000 in 1999, increased to $6,900 for 2004-05 and climbed to $7,500 in 2006-07.
Criteria for the awards includes a cumulative grade point average of 3.500 on a 4.000 scale, participation in at least two years of intercollegiate athletics at the nominee's respective institution and completion of athletics' eligibility. The student-athletes also must graduate from their respective member institutions within 15 months of their selection for a postgraduate scholarship and are expected to enroll in graduate/professional schools within two years of graduation. Three faculty representatives, one senior woman administrator and one director of athletics form the selection panel for the awards.
