Mitch Jones Fundraiser
June 27, 2008 | General
Mitch Jones was a great guy, former Oklahoma State student athlete playing under Coach Paul Hansen, an awesome husband and great father of two great kids.Â
Mitch died several years ago due to a tragic automobile accident on the H.E. Bailey turnpike; days later at his funeral, close friend and teammate Bill Self stated “we know this about Mitch...right now he is in heaven, he is playing on a basketball team, they are called the Cowboys and are wearing orange and black jerseys”.
As Mitch was a beloved friend to many OSU alumni, fans, teammates and friends attending Oklahoma State in the 80's, an annual golf tournament raises money for the Mitch Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fund is part of the current Leave a Legacy Campaign aimed at endowing all scholarships associated with OSU varsity sports. Monies received in the Mitch Jones Memorial Scholarship fund will annually provide tuition, fees, books, travel, etc. for a student-athlete on the OSU Men's Basketball squad.
As an additional fundraiser, a special “vintage shirt promotion” has been set up with proceeds donated to the same fund. Â Â Each shirt is $19.99, includes shipping & handling and is a fun way to remember the “good ol' days” in Stillwater.
Thank you for your support.Â
And thank you for helping to remember Mitch.Â
We dearly miss his infectious smile, his eagerness to initiate a pick-up game of basketball or whiffleball somewhere on campus and his “orange to the bone” devotion to his school.
