OSU Equestrian Team Tryouts
Fall 2008
Do I need my own tack?
No, we provide all the horses, tack and equipment. You need only bring comfortable riding apparel and an approved helmet if you are riding hunt seat. If you do not have one, we can provide one for you.
How many people make the team?
Generally we accept between 10-15 new members each fall.
How many people tryout for the team?
Typically, 20 to 40 students will tryout.
What are you looking for at tryouts?
We are looking for the top riders that possess the skills for success in the events in which we compete, hunt seat equitation over fences, hunt seat equitation on the flat, western horsemanship and reining. Show experience at advanced levels is preferred but not necessarily a pre-requisite.
In which of the events should I tryout?
You should show us your best skills. Tryouts are not the time to experiment. It does not make a difference to us if our members compete in 4 events or 1 event. Most of our students specialize in one discipline.
Other than riding skills, what else will the coaches be looking for at tryouts?
We are looking for responsible, athletic students that are also successful academically. We adhere to NCAA, OSU and team rules with regard to eligibility. Any participation on our team is dependent on meeting these requirements including certification through the NCAA Clearinghouse. You can find more information on the Clearinghouse at the NCAA website.
