Another Cowboy Qualifies at the Stanford Invitational

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Cowboy track and field team finished the Stanford University Invitational Saturday with one NCAA regional qualifier.
Junior Matt Barnes-Smith finished the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:10.30 and a fourth place finish in his section. Barnes-Smith joins senior Ryan Vail and junior Daniel Watts, who both qualified yesterday, as a regional qualifier in the event.
Senior David Jankowski finished seventh in his section of the 10,000-meter run with a time of 28:55.68, only about 10 seconds hitting the NCAA regional mark of 28:45.00.
Freshmen Josh Mathis and Paul Burke placed fourth and eighth, respectively, in their sections of the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Mathis finished in 9:13.01 and Burke finished in 9:18.32.
A pair of sophomores, Sean Fleming and Brad McNiff, fared well in the 1,500-meter run, each placing fifth in his section. Fleming posted a time of 3:53.24 and McNiff finished with a time of 3:54.05.
