Cowgirls Upset Nebraska, 5-2, at Home
April 05, 2008 | Cowgirl Tennis
“We beat a very good team today,” said Cowgirl head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski. “We knew we had a chance to get a win if we came in and played the way we are capable of playing. Everybody fought hard and we really came together to get this win.”
OSU found itself in a tough match early as
In singles play, Allen picked up the Cowgirls' second point with a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 3.
After OSU's Jessica Collins extended the lead to 3-1 with a win at No. 6, Maryna Tkachenko put the match away with a big win over Amber Chandronnait at No. 5. Karaitiana fell at No. 2, but Belova picked up a close win in the tie-break at No. 4 to give OSU a 5-2 advantage.
“The girls played great in doubles and we definitely took that momentum into singles play,” said Lubicz-Majewski. “Jessica Collins really played well at No. 6 to pick up a crucial point for us, and Maryna was huge for us today, picking up the winning point.”
The final score marks the second straight meeting that OSU has defeated
The Cowgirls will be back in action tomorrow as they take on the Iowa State Cyclones at 10 a.m. at the DeBois Tennis Complex.
