Cowgirl Golf Headed To NCAA West Regional
April 29, 2008 | Cowgirl Golf
Oklahoma State's women's golf team will compete at the NCAA West Regional it was announced today. The tournament will be held May 8-10 at Lincoln Hills Golf Club in Lincoln, Calif., and will mark OSU's 16th-consecutive NCAA appearance.
“We are excited to head to Sacramento and hope to continue the momentum of our success this past weekend,” Cowgirl head coach Laura Matthews said.
The Cowgirls earned an automatic NCAA berth after their 27-stroke victory last weekend at the Big 12 Championship. The victory at the conference tournament was OSU's third of the season and produced the Cowgirls' first individual medalist of the year in freshman Jaclyn Sweeney.
The seventh-ranked Cowgirls will compete as the No. 5 seed in the 21-team field, while Southern California will serve as the top seed. Last season, the Cowgirls tied Stanford for first place at the NCAA West Regional in St. George, Utah.
The top eight teams and two individuals will advance from each of the three regionals. The East Regional will be held at the UGA Golf Course in Athens, Georgia and the Central Regional will be contested at the University of Texas Golf Course in Austin, Texas.
The NCAA Championship will be held May 20-23 at the University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course in Albuquerque, N.M.
