Cowgirl Golfers Extend Lead At Big 12 Championship

The Cowgirls began the day 12 shots clear of the field and extended the margin to 14 with a 36-hole total of 605, 29-over. Texas A&M finished the day in second place at 619 after a round of 304, while Missouri finished in third place at 636.
“Any lead is a good lead, so we are happy with that,” OSU head coach Laura Matthews said. “The girls have done a great job. We didn't play our best on the front nine, but we finished it off well. We feel like we are in a good place heading into the final round.”
OSU freshman Jaclyn Sweeney tallied her second consecutive 74 to maintain the top spot on the individual leaderboard. Competing in just her sixth collegiate event, the Andover, Mass., native birdied both of the par 5s on the front nine and turned at 2-over 38 before playing her inward nine in even par for her 74. Sweeney's 4-over 148 total is two shots ahead of A&M's Sarah Zwartynski.
“Today, I wanted to see if I could handle the pressure.” Sweeney said. “I think we need to keep playing one hole at a time and shot at a time. Our team is doing extremely well and hitting the ball really solid. We seem to be playing well and know this course.”
Four shots off the lead and alone in third place is Karin Kinnerud after posting her second consecutive 76 to stand at 152. The OSU junior put together a round that included a pair of birdies and has her in position to pursue her second consecutive top 10 at the conference tournament.
Pernilla Lindberg carded a 78 during her second round to finish tied for fourth place at 153. The OSU junior was 8-over through 11 holes, but battled back with birdies on three of her final five holes to get in at 6-over for the day.
Junior Amanda Johnson matched Sweeney for the squad's low round of the day with a 74 to move up seven spots into sole possession of sixth place. The Tulsa, Okla., native turned at 2-over and recorded six consecutive pars to start her back nine before finishing with a 36 to get to her number.
Senior Tammy Clelland came in just one stroke out of the top 10, finishing tied for 13th place at 158 after a round of 80.
The Cowgirls will begin tomorrow's final round tomorrow at 9:50 a.m. on the No. 1 tee and will be paired with Texas A&M and Missouri.
