Cowgirls Fall to Aggies in Conference Quarterfinals
April 26, 2008 | Cowgirl Tennis
COLLEGE STATION,
No. 3 seed Texas A&M took an early 1-0 lead over the No. 6 seed Cowgirls with doubles wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Freshmen Jo-Anne Karaitiana and Sasha Belova suffered a quick 8-1 loss at No. 1. Following that, the Aggies clinched the point with an 8-3 victory at No. 3.
In singles play, Karaitiana was the lone bright spot for the Cowgirls as she dominated the No. 3 match on her way to a 6-0, 6-0 win over A&M's Anna Blagodarova. But the Aggies were too tough as they rattled off wins at No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 singles to clinch the win and advance to Saturday's semifinals.
“The girls knew it was going to be tough here,” said OSU head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski. “They knew Texas A&M was going to be an excited team and there would be people watching them. We thought that we were going to have a little better doubles, but doubles didn't show it today, and momentum was on (A&M's) side.”
The Aggies will face No. 2 seed
