Cowgirls Run-Rule Iowa State, 9-1
April 13, 2008 | Cowgirl Softball
OSU went up 1-0 in the bottom of the first as Katelyn Bright, Hamilton and Kim Kaye put together three-conseuctive singles to load the bases. Bright then scored on a groundout by Megan Castle.
The Cyclones evened the score in the top of the second. A base hit by Amanda Bradberry and a walk issued to Ariel Coburn were followed by Sydni Jones' double up the middle, scoring Bradberry. Jones is an Enid, Okla., native via Rogers State in Claremore.
It was all OSU after that as the Cowgirls scored two in the second and fourth, three in the fifth, and one in the sixth that forced the run-rule into effect. Hamilton and leadoff hitter Mariah Gearhart each had three of the Cowgirls' 15 hits. That total was one shy of the season high of 16 against Centenary earlier this year. Eight of the nine players in the starting lineup had at least one hit, including two by Bright, Jessica Meza and Breana Casaus.
Odom scattered five hits in the circle for the Cowgirls, allowing the lone run while striking out one and walking one. She improved to 6-4 on the season with her fourth complete game of the season.
Oklahoma State is now 21-18 overall this season and 4-3 in Big 12 Conference action. The Cowgirls have already exceeded their league win total of a year ago. Iowa State dropped to 24-19 overall and 1-6 in league play. The two teams will play again at noon on Sunday at Cowgirl Stadium.
