Cowgirls Stay Hot With Win in Lubbock

LUBBOCK, Texas – Oklahoma State's women's tennis team extended its Big 12 winning streak to three matches with a 5-2 defeat of Texas Tech in Lubbock on Friday.

“Our entire team played so well tonight,” said Cowgirl head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski. “They continue to stay focused on the task at hand, and that is why we are playing so tough and battling so hard. They played a great match in a place that is very tough to play in.”

OSU's freshman duo of Sasha Belova and Jo-Anne Karaitiana continued to play well as they picked up a 9-7 win over Samantha van der Drift and Janet Durham at No. 1 doubles. The win secured the doubles point for the Cowgirls after the seniors Iryna Tkachenko and Yawna Allen defeated Brenna Jackson and Kerryn Potgieter, 8-1 at No. 2.

In singles action, Karaitiana and Belova each picked up wins. At No. 3, it was Karaitiana defeating Durham, 6-1, 6-4, and at No. 4 Belova outlasted Simone Templeton, 6-3, 6-4. Iryna Tkachenko won in the tie break at No. 1, and Jessica Collins continued her recent hot streak with a 6-1, 6-3, win at No. 6.
