Cowgirls Split Two in First Day of Mizuno Classic

Freshman Amanda Crabtree threw a one-hitter as the Cowgirls defeated Texas Wesleyan 9-0 in five innings in the first OSU game of the day.
The Cowgirls had 12 hits in the game including two from freshman Mariah Gearhart who had three RBI's. Megan Castle also had two hits, including a double, and two RBI's. Sam Heinlein also had two RBI's and reached base in all three of her at-bats.
Breana Casaus extended her hitting streak to five games as she went 2-for-3 at the plate and hit in a run. Texas Wesleyan's single hit came from first baseman, Brooke McNabb.
Crabtree improves to 6-7 as she threw all five innings and struck out seven. Texas Wesleyan's starting pitcher, Rayne Reynolds, got the loss and fell to 1-4.
However in the second game the Cowgirls couldn't find a way to score. OSU tallied seven hits in the game, including one by Breana Casaus that extended her hitting streak to six games, and left seven runners on base.
The Lady Jacks scored the games only run on a solo home run by their designated player, Kari Hugie.
Sophomore Anna Whiddon threw a complete game for the Cowgirls. She gave up only three hits for one run and struck out nine while walking only one. However she received the loss and falls to 0-2.
Monika Covington threw all seven innings for Stephen F. Austin and she improves to 9-4.
The Mizuno Classic will resume on Sunday at 10 a.m. and the Cowgirls will play in the second game at 12 p.m.
