Quick Notes vs. Wichita State
The Cowgirls travel to Wichita, Kan., for a mid-week game with the Wichita State Shockers on Wednesday afternoon at 5 p.m.
OSU has dominated the all-time series with Wichita State, 67-4, including a 57-game winning streak which ended in 2001. Since then, the Cowgirls are 10-2 vs. the Shockers.
Oklahoma State is 28-2 all-time vs. WSU in Wichita.
Up Next for the Cowgirls
Oklahoma State will play at home for the first time this season when the Cowgirls host the Mizuno Classic this weekend at the Cowgirl Softball Complex.
Other teams competing in the tournament are Centenary, Stephen F. Austin and Texas Wesleyan.
Games will be played at noon, 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. and noon on Sunday.
At the Plate
As a team, Oklahoma State ranks second behind Baylor in the Big 12 with its .312 batting average. The Bears are batting .337 in 15 games. OSU is second in the league in slugging percentage (.494), home runs (22) and leads the league in sacrifice bunts (19).
Freshman shortstop Mariah Gearhart ranks third in the Big 12 with her .431 batting average. She also ranks third in hits (25) and fifth in runs scored (17).
Freshman second baseman Alysia Hamilton ranks ninth with her .389 batting average. Sophomore outfielder Katelyn Bright ranks 18th with her .349 average.
Senior Kim Kaye leads the conference in home runs (8) and total bases (47). She is third in RBIs (21) and fourth in slugging percentage (.758).
Bright and Hamilton are tied for third in the Big 12 with six doubles.
Gearhart is second in the league lead with her 15 stolen bases. Through 19 games, she is already in sixth place on the school single-season stolen bases list. Shanel Scott established a school record last season with 51 stolen bases in 58 games, or 0.88 stolen bases per game. Gearhart is averaging 0.79 per contest.
In the Circle
Oklahoma States pitching staff has thrown three shutouts this season, including a one-hitter by freshman Amanda Crabtree vs. Temple in a 5-0 win. She ranks fourth in the Big 12 Conference in both innings pitched (61) and strikeouts (66).
Another freshman, Sarah Odom, is 5-2 this season. She ranks fifth in the Big 12 with 12 appearances. Sarah threw a complete game against No. 15 Washington in Tempe.
Crabtree ranks second in appearances (13), third in games started (10) and sixth in complete games (6).
Kaye in the Record Books
Cowgirl senior Kim Kayes name is scattered throughout the career record book at Oklahoma State.
She currently has eight home runs this season, leading the Big 12 Conference. Her 21 career home runs rank seventh in the school record books. She needs just one more homer to tie Stephanie Nicholson for sixth place and two to tie Courtney Totte and Megan Carey for fourth place.
Kaye is tied for eighth on the career doubles list with 25. Two more would move her into sole possession of fifth place.
Kayes 84 runs batted in following last weekend rank her seventh in school history. She needs four RBIs to surpass Michele Smith for sixth place.
Her 203 total bases ranks 15th all-time in school history. Three bases will move her into 13th place.
Kayes .527 career slugging percentage ranks seventh in school history.
She moved into the top-25 in school history for runs scored last week. She currently has 68, ranking 18th.
Coach Rich Wieligman
Coach Rich Wieligman is entering his second season as the head coach of the Cowgirls. He is just the fifth coach in the history of the program.
He has compiled a 36-42 record at Oklahoma State.
Coach Wieligman is no stranger to the Big 12 Conference. He has spent time at Baylor, Texas A&M and Texas Tech as an assistant coach.
