Cowgirl Softball Sweeps Baylor with 3-1 Victory
March 31, 2008 | Cowgirl Softball
Whiddon and the Cowgirls worked their way out of a bases-loaded jam in the third inning after taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. An RBI single by Breana Casaus scored senior Megan Wagner, who was hit by a pitch to get on base to put OSU up in the second.
Oklahoma State added a run in the third on the first of two sacrifice flies by Megan Castle. Alysia Hamilton reached second base when Tiffany Wesley misjudged a line drive that bounced off her glove. Hamilton advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Kim Kaye and scored on Castle's fly ball to centerfield.
OSU added an insurance run in the fifth in almost identical fashion, with Hamilton doubling to left field and advancing to third on Kaye's sacrifice bunt. Castle again hit a fly ball to center, scoring Hamilton.
The Bears were able to scrape together a run in the top of the seventh on three singles, but Sarah Odom, who picked up her first save of the season, forced a ground out by Courtney Oberg and a fly ball by Jordan Daniels to end the game.
Oklahoma State improves to 17-17 on the season including a 2-2 mark in Big 12 action. Baylor fell to 18-12 overall and 1-5 in league play. The Cowgirls will return to action on Tuesday night as they host North Texas at 5 p.m. at Cowgirl Stadium.
