Cowgirls Come Up Short in Manhattan

MANHATTAN, Kan. Â– Oklahoma State's women's tennis team suffered a close loss to conference foe Kansas State at Manhattan's Washburn Tennis Facility on Friday.

After Cowgirl seniors Yawna Allen and Iryna Tkachenko lost at No. 1 doubles, OSU got a strong outing from freshmen Jo-Anne Karaitiana and Sasha Belova at No. 2 as the duo picked up a hard-fought 9-7 victory to even the score at 1-1, but freshman Jessica Collins and junior Maryna Tkachenko fell short at No. 3, giving KSU the doubles point.

In singles play, Karaitiana and Belova claimed victories at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, and Maryna Tkachenko defeated KSU's Natasha Vieira, 6-1, 6-1, to claim OSU's other singles point, but the Wildcat's outlasted the Cowgirls, taking the match, 4-3.

OSU will be back in action Sunday as they travel to Lawrence, Kan., to take on the Kansas Jayhawks in an 11 a.m. match.
