Cowgirl Equestrian Bid Seniors Farwell with Victory

The Oklahoma State equestrian team ended a four show losing streak against Fresno State. The Cowgirls (9-4) defeated the Bulldogs (4-6) by a score of 10-5.
The win today finished up the regular season for the Cowgirls. In their home finale the Cowgirls celebrated their seniors and the years they have spent at Oklahoma State. The seniors included Megan Bear, Natalie Chappell, Sam Davidson, Bailey Mahoney, LeeAnna McNally, Megan McVay, Brittany Myers, Wendy Piard, Angela Stroope, Jamie Theobald, Catie Tunnell, Claire Walford, and Michelle Woolschlager.
The Cowgirls finished with the second best record in the Big 12, only behind Texas A&M. The Cowgirls swept Baylor while splitting with Kansas State and Texas A&M.
A goal at the beginning of the season for the Cowgirls was to protect their home turf, and they did just that. Oklahoma State went undefeated in Stillwater at the Animal Science Arena. In their six home victories the Cowgirls defeated South Carolina, Baylor, Tennessee-Martin, Texas A&M, Kansas State, and Fresno State.
The Cowgirl English team won with a score of 6-2. In the equitation over fences category the Cowgirls defeated Fresno State by a score of 3-1. Senior Natalie Chappell and sophomores Ally Blais and Jaclyn Osterstock all captured victories in this category. Chappell won the MVP for equitation over fences.
To finish up this category the Cowgirls captured a victory in the equitation on the flat by a score of 3-1. Senior Bailey Mahoney and juniors Sam Collingsworth and Charlotte Collingsworth all won on the day.
Oklahoma State defeated Fresno State 4-3 in the western categories. In the horsemanship discipline the Cowgirls defeated Fresno State by a 2-2 count. Junior Jordan Pickelman and sophomore Suzanne Randolph captured victories in the horsemanship category. Randolph picked up the MVP on the day.
In the reining category the Cowgirls captured victory 2-1. The winning Cowgirls were juniors Leah Kuehn and Jacque Roberts. Kuehn won the MVP in reining.
Head Coach Larry Sanchez said, “We were very proud of the girls and the way they performed today. We were happy to win on both sides for our seniors. We were happy to go out on a win for both hunter seat and western girls. We are content with our regular season record and look forward to competing in the post season.”
The Cowgirls will be in action again at the Big 12 Invitational in Manhattan, Kansas on March 29.
