Oklahoma State Wins Mizuno Classic

The Cowgirls defeated Centenary 5-1 and Stephen F. Austin 5-1 to end the Mizuno Classic on a high note and improve to 13-11 on the season.
In the first game of the day for the Cowgirls, they faced Centenary for the third time this season. Like the previous two meetings the Cowgirls finished victoriously.
The Ladies scored their only run in the second inning from an RBI-single by right-fielder Amy Wiedeman. The Cowgirl pitching staff would hold Centenary to just two more hits in the game.
The Cowgirls didn't score until the fifth inning when junior Breana Casaus lead off the inning with a hit to extend her streak to seven games. She scored from third on a passed ball and Katelyn Bright scored from third on a sacrifice fly to right field by Megan Castle.
OSU scored three more runs in the sixth when Sam Heinlein hit her second double of the season to score Heather Kim. Jessica Meza and Casuas, who pinch-ran for Heinlein, scored when Mariah Gearhart hit a double down the left field line to make the final score 5-1.
Freshman Sarah Odom started in the circle for the Cowgirls and threw four innings, gave up five hits for one run and struck out four. However it was Anna Whiddon who picked up the win as she came in for relief in the fifth. Whiddon struck out three and gave up only one hit as she picked up her first win of the season and is now 1-2.
The second Cowgirl game of the day also ended with a score of 5-1. OSU faced Stephen F. Austin again as the No. 2 team versus the No. 1 team in the tournament. This time the Cowgirls scored first and never gave up the lead.
Freshman Alysia Hamilton and junior Heather Kim started the fourth inning with back-to-back home runs. They were followed with two more Cowgirl hits and a sacrifice fly by Gearhart to score Kati Phillips.
The Ladyjacks lone run came from an RBI-single to right field by third-baseman Briana Bishop.
