Oklahoma State Falls 5-4 to New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. Â Oklahoma State came from behind twice to tie the game but never gained the lead Friday evening as they fell to New Mexico 5-4.
New Mexico got an early 2-0 lead in the first inning when Lindsey Elcess hit her fourth home run of the season with a runner on third.
The Cowgirls (10-7) tied the ball game in the third when freshman Alysia Hamilton hit a single up the middle to score Emily Blackburn and Katelyn Bright advanced to second. Senior Kim Kaye singled to right field to score Bright, bringing her season RBI total to 20.
However the Lobos (7-5) answered in the bottom of the inning with two more runs of their own. Centerfielder Sara Loeffelholz hit a double off the right field wall and was followed with three consecutive hits.
Oklahoma State tied it up again in the fifth inning as Hamilton hit a double off the left field wall scoring Gearhart from third, her second RBI of the game. Hamilton then scored from second base on a single through the right side from Megan Castle.
The game would remain tied at four until the bottom of the seventh inning when Loeffelholz hit a two-out double to score Ashley Hudson from third to win the game for the Lobos.
Freshman Sarah Odom started in the circle for the Cowgirls and gave up four runs off six hits before being relieved in the third by sophomore Anna Whiddon. Whiddon gave up only two hits for one run and struck out three but got the decision and is now 0-1.
New Mexico's starting pitcher, Kyla Nelson, threw five innings and gave up seven hits for four runs. The winning pitcher of the game was Kelly Ninemire who came in for relief in the sixth. She gave up four hits and is now 4-2.
The Cowgirls will play their second game against the Lobos on Saturday at 1:00 MT (2:00 CT.)
