Cowgirl Netters Win Big Over UTA

TULSA, Okla. – Oklahoma State's women's tennis team (3-0) continued to roll with a 6-1 victory over Texas-Arlington at Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Sunday.
Oklahoma State got two big wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. Cowgirl senior Iryna Tkachenko defeated Kiara Jagosova, 4-6, 7-5, 10-2, in a tough match at No. 1. OSU's Nataliya Shatkovskaya went to a tiebreak with Daiana Negreanu, and picked up the win, 4-6, 7-5,10-2.
In doubles action, Tkachenko was tough once again as she and teammate JoAnne Karaitiana defeated Negreanu and Sara Pesic, 8-3. The Cowgirls lost at No. 1 doubles, but picked up the doubles point due to a default win at No. 3.
“We are very happy with the win today,” said Cowgirl head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski. “UTA was very strong at their top three spots and I thought our girls showed a lot of effort against them. I am proud of the way our girls are coming together and improving. Now we have to get ready for a tough test on Saturday.”
The Cowgirls will be back in action on Saturday as they take to the court against SMU in Edmond, Okla. Match time is set for 11 a.m.
