LAS VEGAS, Nev. Â Oklahoma State's women's tennis team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 6-1 defeat of Illinois State at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas, Nev., on Saturday.
The Cowgirls were paced by senior Iryna Tkachenko. The senior, who is ranked 70th in the country, defeated ISU Katri Miller, 6-2, 7-6, at No. 1 singles. OSU sophomore Nataliya Shatkovskaya continued to play well as she picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win over Veronique Parke-Bedard at No. 3 singles.
At No. 4 singles, Jo Anne Karaitiana defeated Redbird senior Carolyne Parent, 6-2, 6-2. Sasha Belova and Maryna Tkachenko also picked up wins to the Cowgirls at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
OSU also continued its strong run in doubles action as they swept doubles play.
“I am very proud of the way our girls played today,” said Cowgirl head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski. “Illinois State is a good team. I thought we played well in doubles play and we took care of business in singles. Now, we need to get ready to come back tomorrow and play UNLV.”
OSU will take on the 40th-ranked Running Rebels Sunday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. The match is set to begin at noon.
